Clara Shandler was born into a musical family amidst the multi-cultural atmosphere of
Vancouver, British Columbia. She grew up listening to music from all over the world and
wishing to contribute to a better world. The cello was her ticket into rock bands, dance groups, operas,
classical chamber ensembles and multi-cultural groups. She completed a Bachelor of Music Degree
at the University of British Columbia in 2012 and has spent the past decade teaching, performing,
recording, writing, and collaborating in a number of different mediums - sharing her voice and her energy across
Canada, Nepal, Cambodia, and Myanmar - however and wherever she can bring about positive change.

"This Little Corner" is a collection of live recordings from around the world. I travelled from Vancouver, to Paris, explored France and the Netherlands by train, took the ferry to London, flew to Nepal, flew to Cambodia, and then returned home to Vancouver. Raw and unedited, this album is a unique collection.
All proceeds from this album will be split 50/50 between: 1. Kwekwecnewtxw Watch House on Burnaby Mountain (www.protecttheinlet.ca) 2. Empowering Youth in Cambodia (www.eycambodia.org) |

"Ka" is an Egyptian word meaning "the spiritual self". My intention with this album was to create a musical capsule of who I am, to share that with you and anyone that wants to listen. There's a light side ("Side A" - tracks 1-5) and a dark side ("Side B" - tracks 6-10). This album also features Tsa Le - an amazing guitarist from Burma.
This album was produced, recorded and mixed by Stef Soma and I have to extend a big thank you Brock McFarlane (CPS Mastering) & Seth Goldberg (DMA DISCS). |

Tsa Le - Over the past 2-3 years I have been very fortunate to have made friends with Tsa Le, an amazing guitarist from Myanmar and incredibly inspiring human being. His personal story is one fraught with loss, and I have felt a profound need to help promote his music. This EP features two of Tsa Le's original songs as well as the two tracks of my music that he recorded with me. |

Scales with the Sidewalk Cellist - Purely for educational purposes, I have started recording play-along scale practice sessions to cover the entire circle of fifths on the cello. However, as long as you can ignore the cello-specific fingering patterns, there is no reason why any instrument couldn't play along to these recordings! |
|
freedom from want - a musical response to the culture shock of returning to Vancouver from my first trip to Cambodia and Burma. This album features nine original tracks ranging in style from jazz to metal, made possible by the generous collaborations of Dr. Timothy Van Cleave (percussion), Anita Eccleston (trumpet), Mark Haney (double bass), Jeremy Hannigan (artwork), Digital Media Alliance (reproduction) and Stefan Mears (production). |
|
faux seasons - a side-project for the year of 2014. My mission as a cellist is to make classical music more accessible and so I recorded a number of movements from the Bach Suites for Unaccompanied cello for each season. This album is only available digitally - free or by donation, with all proceeds to benefit music education projects in Cambodia and Burma. |

Live in the Streets of Burma - One day while in Yangon, Burma (Myanmar) I decided to take my cello, a plastic chair, and a zoom mic and sit down in a random little side street and play a few tunes. Some children showed up, having just gotten out of school - you can hear them laugh as a car tries to squeeze by on the incredibly narrow street during "Smells Like Teen Spirit". |
|
Sidewalk Cellist - everything from Bach to Nirvana in nine tracks. There are a number of live recordings on this album, including both the Bach and the Nirvana. This album features the lovely Caitlan Turcotte on vocals (I was too shy to sing back then) and Dr. Timothy Van Cleave on drums (he has a PhD in percussion). |
