(I know this for a fact because we are flying to Cambodia on December 9th! ...aaaaand he might have just invested in a camera that can shoot video with nothing but moonlight....)
But, more on tearing down walls!
I wrote "Bridges over Walls" (my first solo show) to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall with the intention of using music to tear down more walls. While at Winnipeg Fringe Festival this summer, I was incredibly moved, saddened, and worried by the state of affairs in the middle east - particularly the state of Gaza. I realised that I am not capable of flying to Gaza, taking a pick axe, and physically, piece by piece, tearing down that wall.... but after collaborating with Rodney Decroo, I saw the power in using theater to express oneself and I thought, perhaps I can help people take down the walls inside themselves.
We all have our walls, because we all feel vulnerable in some respects, and we need to protect our selves. But, as with the phenonmenon of "bubble-wrap kids" - over protection has terrible consequences. We miss out on so much beauty, if we are not receptive and open to finding it when we don't expect it....
I'll be performing "Bridges over Walls" for another run in the spring, some of which will be private house concerts on Salt Spring Island. If you want to come, click here become my patron and in exchange for supporting my next album I am offering a "perk" that includes accommodation for two, for two nights, on Salt Spring Island (private house concert included).
Oh! And if you'd like to see what Ryan North and I get up to in the Cambodian moonlight, keep in touch by signing up for my quarterly newsletter (click here).
Until next time.....
Yours Truly,
-Clara
