No one deserves to be hated, arrested, beaten up, discriminated against, etc. for loving another human being. What consenting adults do with their own hearts and their own bodies is their own business. The only real issue that I see is with non-consenting, unwanted sexual activity.
Romantic feelings, whether they are heterosexual or homosexual, are not created by choice - love and attraction just happen, and that love and attraction is an absolutely beautiful thing. If you think being gay is a choice, the next time you see an attractive person walking down the street, ask yourself - can you choose whether you find that person attractive?
What is a choice is how we conduct ourselves in our personal and romantic relationships. It is the misfortune of the LGTB community that the stereotypical homosexual is an over-the-top flamboyant, sexual, and promiscuous individual. However, that is only one end of the spectrum. There are a great number of LGTB individuals that are celibate, monogamous, and keep their personal, sexual, and romantic lives between themselves and their closest circle of friends - no different than the varieties of heterosexual people.
I have been very fortunate to grow up with two amazing aunts to look up to. My Aunt Sue met Nicky when they were in high school and as soon as gay marriage was legal in Canada, they signed the deal. They have been happily married for 36 years - longer than any of their heterosexual siblings, and they're still going strong! If two women (that love each other as much as any other couple) don't enjoy the same human rights then there is a serious injustice in the world.

You probably did hear about the homophobia in Russia due to high profile of the 2014 Sochi Olympics. I found this video, which effectively summarizes the current situation:
Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere.
So, once again the answer to the world's problems is - love. Think about it, and please, feel free to leave your thoughts/comments/questions in the comments section below (you may do so anonymously).
